STATEWIDE BLACK SAGA COMPETITION

2008 TOP TEN WINNERS

The Eleventh Black Saga State Competition was held Saturday, March 15. Nearly 500 students representing 110 schools from across the state and Virginia participated in preliminary rounds.  Ten teams at the Elementary level and ten teams at the Middle School level proceeded to the Championship Rounds.

Here are the results:

Elementary School:
1st place: Rodgers Forge Elementary School–Baltimore County
2nd place: Hammond Elementary (first team)–Howard County
3rd place: Hammond Elementary (second team)
4th place: Paint Branch Elementary–Prince George’s County
5th place: tie between Deer Park Elementary–Baltimore County and Warren Elementary–Baltimore County
Other Top Ten teams:
- Pinewood Elementary–Baltimore County
- Westchester Elementary–Baltimore County
- Forest Ridge Elementary–Howard County
- Westowne Elementary–Baltimore County

Middle School:
1st place: Paint Branch Elementary School–Prince George’s County (three 6th graders competed at the Middle School level)
2nd place: Patuxent Valley Middle School  (second team)–Howard County
3rd place: Cockeysville Middle School (first team)–Baltimore County
4th place: Patuxent Valley Middle School (first team)
5th place: Cockeysville Middle School (second team)
Other Top Ten teams:
- Folly Quarter Middle School–Howard County
- Franklin Middle School–Baltimore County
- A. Mario Loiederman Middle School–Montgomery County
- Francis Hammond Middle School–Alexandria, Virginia
- Cradlerock School–Howard County
